  • Associations and certification bodies

    You own the credential, the exam and the renewal cycle, so your courses have to be current by the time a standard is revised or an accreditation review comes up. We build the preparation and recertification courses around it.

  • Exam preparation providers

    You prepare candidates for a credential that another organization awards and examines. We build the courses and practice material your candidates study with.

Where we work in your certification program

A certification program goes from job analysis to renewal. Each step is marked as yours, as one we build, or as one we can deliver for you. For a preparation provider, the steps marked yours belong to the organization that awards the credential.

NCCA's 2025 guidance on AI in certification programs says "a firewall must be maintained between education/training and certification". We build on the education side of that line. When we deliver your exam, its questions and its passing standard are still yours, and our SmarterU team delivers the exam on the dates you set.

  1. Job analysis

    Yours. You define the competencies the credential stands for. Everything we build afterward starts from them, so the courses and assessments test what your certified people need to do on the job.

  2. Exam blueprint

    Yours. You publish what the exam covers. We build the preparation around your published blueprint, so candidates study what the exam will ask of them.

  3. Preparation and courses

    We build exam preparation, practice exams and courses around your blueprint, in modules you can update one at a time when the standard changes. Graded practice quizzes can end each module, as in the LGCA's Smart Choices certifications.

  4. Exam

    You write the exam and set its passing standard. If you want, we deliver it on SmarterU or your LMS: we load each period's exam, set up every candidate and manage and monitor exam day, as we do for CAMRT.

  5. Certification

    Yours. You award the credential to the people who pass. In SmarterU, each certificate is branded, carries the license number and expiry date, and has a QR code anyone can scan to check that it is valid.

  6. Continuing education

    We build courses that keep certified people current between renewals, from your standards, recordings and experts' knowledge. SmarterU counts each person's continuing education credits as they complete courses.

  7. Renewal

    Set a re-certification period and SmarterU enrolls people in what they need before their certification expires. It warns them and their supervisors when the date is close.

  • Practice exams and assessments

    Graded practice quizzes at the end of each module, as in the LGCA's Smart Choices certifications, and assessments that test whether people can apply what they learned. In NASSCO's series a wrong answer points to the page of the manual that covers it.

  • Exam delivery

    Your exam delivered on SmarterU. We load each term's exam and send it to you for review, set up every candidate's account and a system test, and manage and monitor the exam on the dates you set. We do this for CAMRT's online exams.

  • Recertification

    Self-paced recertification that reaches more people than a classroom can seat. NASSCO's classes were capped at 15. Adding a self-paced series beside them doubled its recertification capacity.

  • Continuing education

    Courses that keep certified people current between renewals, built from your standards, recordings and experts' knowledge.

  • Classroom programs moved online

    Instructor-led sessions rebuilt as self-paced or blended courses, so the program no longer depends on trainers' schedules and classroom seats.

Dates and deadlines your program follows

  • April 2025

    NCCA issued guidance on AI in certification programs, including the firewall between education and certification.

  • April 2026

    ISO/IEC 17024:2026 was published, adding requirements on AI in the certification of persons.

  • Every five years

    NCCA accreditation follows a five-year renewal cycle.

How a project with us works

    Project points are prepaid units of work you move between tasks as the plan changes, with no change orders.

    Two rounds of revisions are included, at storyboard and at build, because committees change their minds.

    Your experts give two or three sessions of 60 to 90 minutes, about 10 to 20 hours for a single course.

  • Schedule

    A custom course usually takes six to twenty weeks, and we build the schedule backward from the date you need it.

Can you deliver our exam?

Yes. Your exam, its questions and its passing standard stay yours. We can deliver it for you on SmarterU: we load each term's exam, set up every candidate's account and a system test, and manage and monitor the exam on the dates you set. We do this for CAMRT's online exams.

How do you use AI in building our courses?

We use AI as the right hand of a human being who is responsible for the output. Everything is vetted. Your experts review the work at the storyboard and again at the build.

What does a certification program cost?

Every program is quoted. The price depends on how organized your content is, how deeply candidates need to learn it and how far the interactivity and media go. Your budget buys production capacity rather than a locked scope, so a change of plan comes out of the same budget.

How long until the program launches?

A custom course usually takes six to twenty weeks from kickoff to launch, and programs with several courses take longer. We build the schedule backward from the date you need it.

Can we sell exam preparation online?

Yes. SmarterU sells courses and subscriptions through Shopify, WooCommerce or PayPal and enrolls people when they pay.

If you're an association, selling to non-members is usually the better lever: a higher non-member price earns revenue and recruits members at the same time.

Will it work with our LMS and our association management system?

Yes. We build in any authoring tool, deliver courses as SCORM, xAPI or cmi5, and handle the integration with your association management system.

Can you track certifications, renewals and CE credits?

Yes, in SmarterU. It tracks licenses and continuing education credits, re-enrolls people before a certification expires, and puts a QR code on each certificate that anyone can scan to validate it.
